Hot Cross Buns Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding

These came out of the oven 3 hours ago...

I had leftover hot cross buns...what better way than to make it into bread pudding!

Served this with a scoop of ice cream!

To make this is simple, I use the same recipe as I did for my Croissant Bread Pudding, but I added extra chocolate chips and of course I used Hot Cross Buns instead!!

You can use any sort of bread/buns that you like.

Buttermilk

OH NO!

So you just found out that you've ran out of buttermilk in the middle of a recipe.

photo from DairyFarmers

What do you do?

Simple...

For every cup of buttermilk called for in the recipe, add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar into ordinary milk and let it stand for 5-10 minutes before using it.

p/s: you can use freshly squeezed lemon juice or store bought lemon juice that comes in a bottle.

If you do not like the taste of buttermilk, you can always substitute it with ordinary milk of the same amount.

Now you don't have to panic anymore when you've got none on hand.

Many people are not familiar with using buttermilk.

What is buttermilk?
Buttermilk is a cultured dairy product where lactic acid has been added which gives it a tangy flavour. It enhances the taste of baked goods compared to ordinary milk.
A number of recipes calls for the use of buttermilk such as in Red Velvet, Pancakes, Banana Bread, Yellow Buttermilk Cupcakes and so on.

And the good thing is, buttermilk has a long shelf life. It is important to keep it in the fridge.

Enjoy! :)
